Gruml 0.9.13 is outdated, use 0.9.14 and set standby caching interval to a high level (see Preferences)

I am also seeing this behaviour, though in 0.9.14. I have confirmed that it is indeed Gruml causing it by finding the offending traffic on my router and then using lsof to line that up with Gruml on my Mac.

The traffic is between the Mac and the following two addresses:
syd01s01-in-f104.1e100.net
syd01s01-in-f99.1e100.net

These are Google servers here in Australia.

My "Cache feeds every" is set to 15 minutes, and I have tried turning "Live update of unread section" off without luck. I have only 18 feeds and this is with Gruml running in the background without me doing anything in it.

Please set "Cache feeds every" to a higher level (maybe 1h), if you don't want to have a frequent sync/download if in standby

Unfortunately changing it from 15 minutes to 45 minutes (the maximum under 0.9.15) only reduced it to about 75% of what it was before. :-(

I've just been trying to catch up on a feed that I hadn't read in over a week with about 200 unread items in it. What I noticed is that once I tried to read anything over a week old it became difficult as the feed was refreshed after about 20 seconds and would hide all the older items. This refresh could be what is causing the excessive traffic.

Have been using 0.9.14 at work, and in the space of about a week I chewed through our entire 25GB allowance, and I don't think there is anything else to blame but Gruml. !@#$%^&*

I've now increased the "cache feeds every" from the default to the maximum of every 45 minutes, but I'm not sure its going to be enough. Chewing through multiple gigabytes is ridiculous for a news reader.

This is a massive show stopper. I don't know what options the Google API gives you, but I think this is what you need:

1) Give us more options than 45 minutes!! Give us hours, give us 6 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours or whatever we want. Give us a manual only update with a button. Give us times we want updates: e.g. I don't need it updated when I'm asleep, but I may want it updated just before I wake up. Let a manual update only update the feeds you want updated, not all of them.

2) If the Google API allows it, do some smarts to do with feed updating. e.g. only update the feeds you access the most, or update feeds that you notice change more often, or let the user customise etc etc. I subscribe to hundreds of feeds, but there's probably only a small subset I care about being updated particularly often.

I might also add, that if you have a slow connection (like if you are being bandwidth limited after Gruml chewed through your monthly allowance!), and a large number of feeds, then by the time Gruml has finished caching your feeds, it is already time to start all over again! Flood your connection, and when we're done, flood it again!

Pretty please do SOMETHING about this ASAP!
